Anneli Tuominen appointed Vice Chair of ESMA

​Anneli Tuominen, Director General of the Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA), has been appointed Vice Chair of the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). The Vice Chair is elected from among the voting members of ESMA’s Board of Supervisors. The term is effective immediately for a period of 2.5 years. In her new position, Ms. Tuominen replaces Carlos Tavares, Chairman of the Portuguese Comissão Do Mercado De Valores Mobiliários (CMVM).
 
Anneli Tuominen appreciates the confidence placed in her. "ESMA has an important role to play in promoting investor protection, in developing European capital markets and in promoting supervisory convergence. I want to make my contribution to this work," she says.
 
Ms. Tuominen is a member of ESMA’s Board of Supervisors, and her previous assignments included, among other things, the chairmanship of ESMA’s Financial Innovation Standing Committee for two terms.
