Supervision release 27 April 2021 – 19/2021

Guidelines of the European Banking Authority (EBA) on a sectoral systemic risk buffer

On 21 April 2021, the Financial Supervisory Authority (FIN-FSA) took a decision to apply the Guidelines of the European Banking Authority (EBA) of 30 September 2020 on the appropriate subsets of sectoral exposures to which competent or designated authorities may apply a systemic risk buffer. The national legislation on a sectoral systemic risk buffer entered into force on 1 April 2021 in Finland.

The EBA’s guidelines are designed for the competent or designated authorities of EEA Member States. They lay down detailed rules for application of the sectoral systemic risk buffer, while also promoting the transparency of the FIN-FSA’s decision-making regarding the sectoral systemic risk buffer.
