Unemployment funds 2023: earnings-related daily allowance expenditures increased slightly from the previous year

In 2023, a total of EUR 1.9 billion in earnings-related daily allowances was paid. Earnings-related daily allowance expenditures increased by 3% while the total number of allowance days paid decreased by 4% from the previous year. Both earnings-related daily allowance expenditures and the number of allowance days paid decreased in thirteen funds and increased in three. The number of beneficiaries of daily allowances decreased in ten funds and increased in six. In the Entrepreneur Fund, both the daily allowance expenditures and the number of allowance days paid decreased.

Job alternation compensation expenditures totalled slightly more than EUR 25 million, i.e., 6% less than in the previous year. The number of beneficiaries of alternation allowance decreased by 4%.

The volume of commuting and relocation allowances remained unchanged; unemployment funds paid out a total of EUR 2.9 million in them during 2023.

The processing times of applications for daily unemployment allowance remained relatively stable throughout the year. The processing time of approved applications for full daily unemployment allowance peaked in the first quarter of the year at 12 days. The average processing time across all funds in 2023 was 11 days.

The number of members in the wage-earner funds remained practically unchanged. The largest increase in the number of members in any single fund was 3% and the largest decrease was 8%. The number of members in the Entrepreneur Fund fell by a little more than 2,300.
